An Assassination Medal in Halo 2 is achieved by giving an opponent a blow to the back of the head.

Butt Shots

If you find yourself lucky enough to be directly behind someone, don't waste your time shooting them in the butt with an SMG. One melee attack in the back will bring them down. I can think of no better option in such a situation.
